Another round of Your Weight in Gold is here, and this time the authorities are ready to dish out 40 kg of gold coins, worth AED 6 million, to individuals in Dubai who can lose a minimum of two kilos during the competition.
Corresponding to the number of winners, the volume of souvenir gold that will be rewarded to obese adults and kids who shed the flab in the campaign this time has also more than doubled compared to what was given away in the first edition of the contest last year.
Dubai Municipality Club’s Manager, Waleed Al Shaibani, who coordinated the “Your Child in Gold” campaign that ran from July 15 to September 15, said the municipality would distribute the much-awaited gold bullions to the fat fighters in December.
He attributed the delay in holding the prize distribution ceremony to the preparations needed to arrange more gold for more people.
He said a whopping 7,350 individuals had sweated it out to win the contest, which required participants to lose a minimum of two kilos to succeed.
The contest tilted “Your Weight in Gold” in 2013 saw the municipality giving away almost 17kg of 999.9 fine gold bullions worth over Dh2.6 million to fat busters.
Officials said the top winners, who lost the most amount of weight, would be announced at a grand function to be held at Zabeel Park in December. Last year, Syrian architect Ahmad Ibrahim Al Shiekh had shed 26kg from 146.7kg to emerge as the mega winner.
