Developer Emaar has banned UAE-based Desert Chill ice cream from delivering in Emirates Living and Arabian Ranches, saying they are reviewing the list of vendors who would be allowed in their communities. Residents of these communities are quite furious on this ban, planning social media campaigns to register their resentment.
Desert Chill has been delivering ice cream in purpose-built vans since last six years. But last week, Emaar shut the door on them.
As posted at Desert Chill’s Facebook page:
It is with deep regret that we are unable to continue our services (ice cream rounds) within the Emaar communities of The Lakes, Meadows, Springs and Arabian Ranches.
The news has come suddenly and without warning after 6 years of serving the communities without incident or issue. We are in communication with Emaar to try and rectify the situation but as of now we have not been successful. We have been informed that this comes as part of a vendor review process by Emaar.
This is a big blow to us as we have been bringing joy to the communities since 2008 and provided thousands of families memories that last a lifetime.
We would like to thank all of our customers for their support and positive feedback over the years and we will miss serving you dearly.
We hope that we can continue to make Deliveries and attend parties at Residents private request, but at this stage we are unclear on the possibility of this.
Residents of the affected communities have started social media campaigns using hashtags like #SaveTheIceCreamMan #Emaar #DesertChillBan to register their anger over Desert Chill ban and to lobby to revoke the ban.
