Nissan Patrol Challenge ends with a world record as Nissan Patrol towed a 170 tonnes commercial airplane on a commercial airport. This is the first time a live event of this nature has happened anywhere in the world.
The vehicle used was an unmodified production model which towed a 170.9-ton Ilyushin IL-76 cargo plane, (inclusive of weight of the plane, fuel and the cargo ) for over 50 metres. This load was 15 tons greater than the previous record.
The ‘Nissan Patrol Challenge’ began in 2012 and invited the region’s consumers to share their ideas of how they have dreamt of using this iconic vehicle online. Fans have been encouraged to formulate an innovative test for the Patrol, which would give them a chance of winning a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Japan and other prizes.
