The Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) says the 5 year expiry limit on Emirates National ID Card is due to the “chip” it has.
According to this logic:
– The life span of the electronic chip in the national ID card is five years.
– There may be biological changes in an individual due to aging which affected biometrics such as fingerprinting.
– Other reasons include possible changes in an individual’s address, academic qualification, career and marital status, the statement said.
Interestingly, the validity of the cards for expatriates ends with the expiry of their residence visa.
