Dubai jolted with tremors, a result of earthquake aftershocks that hit southern part of Iran today.
The weather bureau confirmed the epicentre was 60 kilometres east of Qeshm, an island in southern Iran, about 120km north of Ras Al Khaimah.
The seismic network of the National Center of Meteorology and Seismology has recorded an earthquake in southern Iran – Qashem island this morning, Tuesday 27 May 2014, with magnitude 5.1 earthquake on richter scale, at 9:44 am (local time). The intensity was 4-5 on Mercalli scale in the northern part of UAE, and it was 120 km north of Ras Al Khaimah.
High rise buildings were evacuated as a precaution when tremors were felt in Dubai.
Residents took to twitter to report their observations about earthquake in Dubai.

Dubai brands try to capitalize on any situation, be it a celebratory event or a calamity. Several tweets were posted that made jokes of the earthquake. Obviously, it was not taken in good spirit.

Dubai experienced the tremors back In April 2013 when a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southwestern Pakistan.
