Emirates ID Card to replace Labor Card soon

emirates id card to replace labor cardIt is now reported that the Emirates ID Card will soon replace the Labor Card – the expected date for this is somewhere in June 2012.

Saqr Gobash Saeed Gobash, Minister of Labour, has said that the decision would be implemented as soon as the Emirates National Identity Authority (Eida) was sure that all expatriates in the UAE were registered and had applied for the Emirates ID.

“After the completion of ID registration of all expatriates in the country, the labour card will be eradicated and replaced by the Emirates ID,” he said.

iPad 3 prices going down in UAE

iPad 3 in Dubai

Prices of iPad 3 (also known as the New iPad) are consistently dropping in UAE. And Apple is yet to officially launch the product here.

The cost of a 16GB wifi new iPad, which was being pre-booked in the UAE prior to the launch on March 16, for Dh3,500 are now being sold at cost price, matching those markets where Apple officially launched it.

A Groupon deal offers the new wifi-only iPads at Dh2,298 for 16GB, Dh2,398 for 32GB wifi and Dh2,698 for 64GB.

In comparison, in Singapore and other markets the 32 and 64GB models were selling for $788 (Dh2,371) and $918 (Dh2,763).

Camel Milk Ice Creams to hit markets soon

Great news for Camel Milk lovers. It has been reported that camel milk based ice creams are going to hit UAE markets soon, courtesy Al Ain Dairy.

Camel milk, which is slightly saltier than cow’s milk, is an integral part of the traditional Arabian diet. The milk carries numerous health benefits that are often reported in scientific and health researches.

The ice cream will be produced with pure camel milk and ingredients, with no additives of cow milk-based ingredients. The company has already started producing camel milk ice cream on pilot bases.

Salma Al Kaabi First Emirati female dog trainer Lt Salma Al Kaabi is the first Emirati female dog trainer. She is a shining example of an Emirati woman who has broken social barriers and joined police in the UAE.

Salma Al Kaabi is the first national woman to become an official dog trainer. Lt Salma surprised a packed hall when she presented a police dog training demonstration at a seminar held in Ras Al Khaimah this week to mark the international Women’s Day.

Emirates Airline to increase fares from March 1

Emirates Airline Fuel Surcharge

Blaming recent fuel price hike, Emirates Airline is introducing a fuel surcharge, for all tickets issued on or after the March 1, 2012, to reflect the substantial recent increases in fuel costs.

The fuel surcharge will differ by markets and routes.

The fuel surcharge in Economy Class is Dh60 on routes from the UAE to the GCC, Middle East and South Asian Subcontinent. The surcharge for First Class and Business Class tickets on these routes is Dh390.

On routes from the UAE to Africa, Europe, the Far East and Australasia the surcharge is Dh120 in Economy Class and Dh500 in First Class and Business Class, respectively.

Dubai Residents to be fined for hanging clothes, having barbecue in balconies

Residents of Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lakes Tower, International City and Discovery Gardens will start getting fines from March if they are found hanging clothes or having a barbecue on their balcony.

Trakhees, the organisational arm of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, supervises residential communities, which also includes Jumeirah Heights, Jumeirah Village and Jebel Ali Downtown, will end its awareness campaign that started in October last year by month-end.

“We will end our awareness campaign by end-February and start issuing fines to those not obeying the law from March,” a company spokesman told this website.

Under Sea Cable Cut Can Disrupt Internet Services in Dubai

Du has issued an statement saying that a cut in an underwater cable between Dubai and Oman could effect internet services in the UAE.

Gulf News reported that in a statement Tuesday, Du said that the cable was served at 7.45am on Monday and that operators were working to fix the problem.

Internet traffic was disrupted in UAE last year when an under sea cable was severed in the region.
