RTA to collect fines issued by Sharjah Municipality
Government of Dubai initiated another step for revenue generation, on the cost of other emirates, of course.
It is announced that fines issued by Sharjah Municipality on vehicles licensed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will now be collected by the Dubai-based Authority.
The money collected will be transmitted electronically to the bank account of the municipality.
A large number of Sharjah residents work in Dubai and have registered their vehicles in Dubai.
An agreement has been signed to this effect at the RTA head office in Dubai by Ahmad Hashim Behroozian, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, and Riyadh Abdullah Bin Al Ayyan, Deputy Director General of Sharjah Municipality.

Dubai in Future: Will you be allowed to own or drive a car?

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is planning a proposal to classify residents in categories of those who can be allowed to own or drive a car and those who are not.
As numb as it sounds, the idea is to reduce number of vehicles on road.
For now, low-paid professions such as domestic and farm workers are proposed to be exempted from owning a car.
Also under discussion is a plan to have separate road lanes for buses, trucks, cycles and motorcycles as well as more pedestrian crossings.

Although it is not officially declared by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), word is on the streets that two new Salik toll gates are planned, brining the total number of toll gates in Dubai to 6.
Salik toll gates, which charge drivers AED4 each time they pass through, were launched in July 2007 under a plan to cut down congestion on Dubai’s roads.
The RTA last year earned around AED800m ($217m) from Salik, up from AED776m in 2009 and AED669m in 2008.
The RTA is also considering the privatisation of some of its services, such as water taxis.
