Illegal Taxis are defined in Dubai as the vehicles that are being used to transport people, without having a license for that. This is definition serves as a double edged sword, because while it identifies illegal taxis it also puts a red line on car-lift and car-pool services.
Dubai Transport Corporation (DTC), once again warned the public that motorists using private vehicles as taxis and those offering car-lift services will face fines and deportation, according to a top transport department official.

Switzerland based company, Grove Boats, has announced to provide solar power technology for Dubai Abras.
As reported in Khaleej Times, Guy Wolfensberger, managing director of Swiss-based Grove Boats, will discuss this proposal with RTA officials during the Dubai Boat Show in March.
We have a plan for the RTA to provide solar power technology for the abras. We can provide the technology to replace the diesel engines with the solar power. With the technology, the traditional image and looks of these boats will not be affected. The solar-powered boats will also help protect the Creek’s environment as there will be no diesel discharge and no engine sound.

Watch your Zzzz while you ride on Dubai Metro, because if you doze off, you could get a rude awakening – and a fine.
As Gulf News reports, a US student, who visited her parents in Dubai recently, boarded Dubai Metro from Khalid Bin Waleed station. She dozed off and went past Ibn Battuta station where she was supposed to get off.
A ticketing inspector woke her up at Jebel Ali station, the last south-bound stop on the Red Line. Before she had the chance to regain her composure, she was handed a Dh300 fine.

Toyota’s local distributor is looking to recall nearly 2,000 Toyota and Lexus 2004 models in the UAE.
The models listed by Al-Futtaim Motors include 929 Toyota Avalon and Camry vehicles and 1,015 Lexus RX330 and ES300 vehicles all 2004 year models.
The voluntary service campaign will inspect the vehicles to check and possibly replace the crankshaft pulley on the V6 engine.
This comes as part of a worldwide recall by Toyota Motor of around 550,000 vehicles due to steering problems. In these cases, the outer ring of the engine’s crankshaft pulley has become misaligned with the inner ring, causing noise or a warning signal to light up.
