People come to Dubai, and UAE, to improve their living conditions. The labourers, shop keepers, domestic help, and expats belonging to similar trades work hard, toiling under the harsh sun and harsher working environment, in order to earn a decent living. Some get what they desire, but life is not a bed of roses for the rest.

Good news for Dubai as another oil field will start production soon.
Al Jalila, the new oilfield named after the daughter of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will be the fifth producing fields in Dubai since oil was discovered in the 1960s.
Samuel Ciszuk, senior Mena energy analyst with IHS Energy, said yesterday that the overall importance of the field was unclear.
The UAE’s average sustainable crude oil production capacity is set to increase 12.5 per cent to 3.06 million barrels per day by 2014, according to estimates by the Paris-based International Energy Agency (IEA).

Dubai real estate was the 9 worst performing market in the world last year, according to a new report by Knight Frank. However, the results of a survey of the 50 biggest property markets in the world also show the rate of decline in Dubai has began to slow.
Reported in Arabian Business, Dubai prices have declined 49.7 percent overall since the peak in the third quarter of 2008.
Last month, a survey of local analysts by Arabian Business found house prices in Dubai’s battered real estate market will slide a further 15 percent by the end of the year.

Rents in the International City area of Dubai have slipped below AED15,000 a year for the first time, as prices in Dubai’s battered property market continue to fall.
Several studios in the Nakheel development are available for as little as AED14,000 a year, although most landlords require potential tenants to pay the full amount in a single cheque.
A series of studios measuring 455 sq ft in size are listed in many of the development’s clusters, including England, China, Italy and Greece.
The prices are more than 50 percent lower than the AED30,000-35,000 bracket recommended in RERA’s first Dubai rental index, published in October 2009.
