GEMS Education to open private schools in the UK

GEMS Education to open private schools in the UKDubai-based GEMS Education is planning to venture out in the UK by setting up private schools with fees at half the price of top schools in the country.

As reported by Arabian Business, GEMS intends to open six fee-paying day schools for boys and girls aged three to 18 in towns and cities across England over the next two years.

It is said that GEMS aims to charge parents between £8,000 and £12,000 a year – about half or a third of the price of some of the country’s leading public schools.

Grove Boats To Offer Solar Technology For Dubai Abras

Grove Boats to provide solar power to Dubai Abras

Switzerland based company, Grove Boats, has announced to provide solar power technology for Dubai Abras.

As reported in Khaleej Times, Guy Wolfensberger, managing director of Swiss-based Grove Boats, will discuss this proposal with RTA officials during the Dubai Boat Show in March.

We have a plan for the RTA to provide solar power technology for the abras. We can provide the technology to replace the diesel engines with the solar power. With the technology, the traditional image and looks of these boats will not be affected. The solar-powered boats will also help protect the Creek’s environment as there will be no diesel discharge and no engine sound.

Wave of unemployment soon to hit UAE

Dubai JobsWith recession in Europe and US getting worse from bad, companies in the UAE plan to rightsize to cut costs and stay in business. This will bring a new wave of unemployment to the shores of Dubai as well.

Jobs in Abu Dhabi’s construction industry are likely to be the most affected as state-backed firms reassess their budgets.

The UAE was dealt a blow by the global economic crisis in 2008, which saw property prices decline by around 60 percent as banks curtailed their lending and speculators left the market.

Mission Visas for short term gigs in UAE

This is good news for employers, who have a short term task to be done and don’t need to get into the hassle of hiring a permanent employee, as well as for potential candidates who are looking for work in UAE.

As per a report in the Gulf News, expats who wish to work for a short time or on probation can enter the country on mission visa which is for 90 days.

People who enter the country on visit, transit and tourism visas cannot work and cannot obtain a work permit here.
People caught working on visit visas will be deported and banned from entering the UAE forever and employers will be fined Dh50,000 for each such work.

Toyota Al-Futtaim Motors recall 200 vehicles including Avalon, Camry and Lexus

Toyota’s local distributor is looking to recall nearly 2,000 Toyota and Lexus 2004 models in the UAE.

The models listed by Al-Futtaim Motors include 929 Toyota Avalon and Camry vehicles and 1,015 Lexus RX330 and ES300 vehicles all 2004 year models.

The voluntary service campaign will inspect the vehicles to check and possibly replace the crankshaft pulley on the V6 engine.

This comes as part of a worldwide recall by Toyota Motor of around 550,000 vehicles due to steering problems. In these cases, the outer ring of the engine’s crankshaft pulley has become misaligned with the inner ring, causing noise or a warning signal to light up.

Leading International Banks like Deutsche Bank and Credit Agricole to cut jobs in Dubai

Don’t say latter you were not warned!!

As deals dry up, revenue falls and lenders curb costs, leading banks like Deutsche Bank and Credit Agricole are withdrawing employees from Dubai.

UAE BanksArabian Business reports that Deutsche Bank, Germany’s largest, will relocate Christopher Laing, head of equity capital markets for the Middle East and Africa, back to London after three years in Dubai. Credit Agricole’s corporate and investment banking unit said last month it would shut its mergers advisory team in Dubai. Citigroup transferred its regional head of equities, Adam Key, back to the UK in recent months.

Gitex 2011 review

Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) is the largest IT exhibition of the GCC and MENA. Every year thousands of exhibitors and visitors attend Gitex to network, do business, and learn about the latest IT trends and cutting age hardware and software solutions. Gitex has two parts, the Technology section, more of a B2B event, is organized at Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre (Trade Centre). The second part is called Gitex Shoppers where electronic consumer goods are sold. This event is organized at Dubai Airport Expo.

This year Gitex Technology week was organized from October 9-13, while the Shopper event was organized from October 8-15.
